Before browsing your parts , i knew i needed a new evap fan. Located 2 diff parts that look identicle (can't make out no. S on old unit) . On your site, 1 of them costs $70 (218878801) the other $30 (5300158289) the appliance is over 10 years old but my question is why don't the fans cross reference ? They appear to have the same size & harness. Is there some massive difference "rpm wise " or other function/cycling ? We are talking two to three times the price (on some other sites) Is there any "realistic justification" to something so "seemingly" small & simply, being proprietary with no alternative solution. I mean , they call them "knock off" parts in the auto industry when they're not made by the manufacturer, but if they viably interchangeable - it's a solution of economic priority.

Hey Nick, Great info from what I've seen so far. This forum is a valuable resource. I have a similar prob: no fan circulation, good freezer temp. and refrig. temp. higher than normal. Compressor seems to be ok but "laboring" sound. I've seen some freezing on the white tubing (~5/8" o.d) that runs down the outside of the back. Looks like I need to gut my freezer, remove the back panel, and take a look to make sure that the fan blade isn't iced up & stalling the fan motor. I can also check the wiring to the motor with my VOM to make sure that it's gettng power. Just to confirm, does this need to take place from the inside back wall of the freezer or can I access the motor from the outside back panel?

A noise is coming from the top freezer of my refer. It sounds like a noise from a motor. Is that the evaporator motor in the freezer compartment just behind the nob that controls the temp?

The freezer is cooling, but the botton part of the refrigerator has almost completely stopped cooling and the food is beginning to smell. The refrigerator is making a buzzing noise that sounds like it is coming from the freezer. What part could we possibly need to get the refrigerator to cool again. Of course we have turned to dial to cool as high as possible and low. No success. Thanks for your help.
