Installed a new water valve due to no water being dispensed. Found out that the line was frozen in the door. While taking the controls for the ice and water dispenser on the front door apart, I pulled the ribbon out of the front circuit board. When I installed it back in the board it was making crushed ice. The only way to stop the ice maker was to unplug the electrical cord. The lights on the front panel for crushed and cube doesn't work. The ice maker is not working. Checked the water line for the ice maker at the water valve, no water in the ice maker line.

Answer Gregory, You will want to check to make sure that installed the ribbon harness properly. If the harness is ok then you would want to check the wiring at the bottom/or top of the door to make sure that there are no loose or broken connections. To test the icemaker you would need to cycle the icemaker and check to make sure that you are getting 120 vac to the water valve when the icemaker calls for water. If it is getting power then the water valve would need to be replaced.

How do I remove the ribbon from part 38 in the parts view? This is pertaining to the ice and water power boards. The ribbon connects from the power board to the switch board. I can disconnect the ribbon from the switch board but need to know how to disconnect the ribbon from the power board part 38. There is a slot next to the ribbon connection on the power board. I am thinking that maybe the ribbon needs to slide into the connection. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chuck

Answer Hello Chuck. There is a locking clip that you squeeze the tabs and pull up the clip to remove the ribbon cable from the control board on the unit.

What does the harness ribbon cable connect to. I understand how and where it fits on the control panel, but how and where does the other end connect. The end that has 3 and 4. Is it suppose to fit in the F1 slot? If so is there a clip that holds it. Thank you so much for your help. Thank you Kris

Answer Kris, One side connects to the control board and the other side connects to the interface control on the façade of the dispenser.

I just replaced the water actuator (241685703) on my friend's Kenmore refrigerator (25357109600). I was able to replace it fine, but now the entire dispenser panel is not working. The panel lights do not light up. And when I hit the ice or water actuators nothing happens (no lights and no water or ice). I have verified the power board is receiving power. I get 120V AC on the solder points on the back on the left side between 120AC and Ground where the main wiring harness connects . I also get 10V DC on the right side between ground and V where the cable ribbon goes to the panel board (board with the buttons). I have also verified the connectors are well seated. I did disconnect the ribbon cable from the panel board and then disconnect it when I was done. So I am wondering if I somehow kinked it. The fridge is working normally otherwise. Light in freezer turns on when the door is opened. Any thoughts? Thanks, dave

Answer David, You will want to make sure that the dispenser assembly is plugged back into the harness and check the ribbon harness on the front to ensure that it is on properly. It will tell you this side up so make sure that it is in the up position.

When replacing the ribbon harness, I have tried to insert it into the clip on the board but it does not seem to slide in all the way. How do I open the clip?

Answer Hello Dennis, Most of these either have a separate clip on the ribbon cable receptacle or a clip that slides up and down on the receptacle for the ribbon or pivots over. This locks the ribbon in place when pushed down. I cannot look at the specific application without the model number so I cannot give further instruction with the information provided.

We replaced the ice actuator and now the lights work on the panel, but no water and no ice will dispense. Did we damage the ribbon harness when we replaced it?

Answer Hello Court. You need to check and make sure the actuator is making contact with the switch. If not, the dispenser will not work in the unit.
