My defrost heater has a white ashy spot on the lower right side. Could this mean it is burned out? I unplugged the refrigerator and unplugged the red wire from the thermostat to heater and hooked my meter to red wire and black wire from heater to the meter it read infinity. I just wanted to make sure I was checking continuity right.

Answer Hello B.Wright. It sounds like your test wasn't exactly accurate. When you unplug the heater from the thermostat, you should then unplug the other side of the heater and read from one side of the heater to the other side. You won't read zero resistance, but you won't read infinity. The reading will probably be from 30 to 40 ohms if it is good.On a Frigidaire, the most common cause of a defrost circuit failure is the defrost thermostat, but that doesn't mean the heater hasn't failed. Tests will prove the failed component. I hope this was useful in resolving your issue and have a great day!
