We have a 2008 Frigidaire microwave. Eveything works, but it will not heat the food. I was told it is the magnetron and the transformer. If so can I replace these parts myself?
Answer Hello Steve,
As long as you follow all safety precautions and discharge the capacitor, there is no reason why you should not be able to complete this repair. You should test the parts before replacing them since it is seldom that both of these parts will fail at the same time.
Is there anything else that could be damaged that does produce heat besides the magnetron?
There are a few different parts that can cause a microwave not to heat. The diode, HV transformer, Magnetron, thermal fuse, capacitor and stirrer.
