Our Frigidaire will not dispense ice. The lever depresses, but nothing else happens. I am thinking it could be a bad switch. Is the Micro Switch the part to replace? Thanks

Our ice maker has been giving us trouble off and on for quite sometime. To get it to make make ice when the switch bail is in off position we have had to move from off to on to get the unit to start making ice. three days ago I dropped the switch to on position and maker dumped one time and made no more ice. the unit is dispensing water and filter was replaced last month. It has given us very little trouble until now. 1.Tray compartments have no water in them at present. 2.No ice build-up in water supply line or spout to the tray 3.Have turned thermostat to lowest temp. setting no change. 4.No water spillage apparent in any part of freezer compart ment.

My fridge freezer unit dispenser is stuck "ON" so if cubed ice is selected on the menu it will keep dispensing ice. If you switch to water it will keep dispensing water. If you open the door it will stop but then when you close the door it starts up again. It finally stopped after pushing the switch on the inside a bunch of times to simulate the door being closed even while it is open. Everything seems to be fine but the light on the front of the unit is now stuck on and wont go off. This happened a few days ago and now again so I know there is something wrong and all signs point to electrical. The forums I have read suggest a switch or board issue but I do not know how to go about checking which might be the problem. Do you have an idea what the problem is and if it might be the switch or board how I would check which one it is? It actually seems like it would be the board because it is the only thing common to the light, ice and water. Please help! Thank you!

Latest Questions

Based on some troubleshooting and reading other posts, I believe I have a bad water fill switch. I currently have the ice maker removed and I'm wondering if there is a simple way to test the water fill switch? Also, the ice maker is about 4 years old. The original lasted about 4 years. The switch is about $25 and it looks like a new icemaker is $65. Is the typical ice maker life about 5 years? I'm guessing a replacement would be far more economical in the long run.

My ice dispensor will only give crushed ice, no cubes. Would this be a problem with the control switch on the front of the freezer door or with an internal switch that is not working?

When my ice maker makes ice it doesn't always pop the ice out, I can do it manually. Then when the ice tray fills with water the water does not stop running and goes into the tray and out the ice shute in the door. Could it be the micro switch or a new ice maker?
