My refrigerator just started freezing the food on the top shelf. The freezer side is doing fine. The evaporator has been making odd noises for a while now. It now seems to be coming on and off in quick bursts a lot of the time its running but not all of the time. My question is do you think this evaporator motor has gone bad and is causing the food to freeze, or has my cooler side thermostat gone bad?

My refrigerator suddenly started freezing the things on the top shelf. No matter what you set the temp. setting to. The freezer side is working fine. The evap. motor is coming on and off on and off most of the time but sometimes sounds normal. It has been making odd noises for over a year now. This had me thinking that any day now this motor might go out. My first thought on the freezing problem was the thermostat that controls the cooler side was bad. I am a HVAC mechanic and I understand the mechanical portion of these systems but do not have any experience to draw from concerning appliances. I would appreciate your opinion to ensure correct parts are ordered.
