Answer Pammaw, If the filter has never been changed then you would want to put a new filter in the unit. To remove the door you would remove the upper hinge cover and the hinge. At the lower part of door hinge on the freezer side, remove the kickplate and disconnect water line and wire harness. Lift door off being careful with harness and the tubing. Reinstall in reverse. Unfortunately we do not have a manual on this unit.
