My Repair & Advice Featured Story
First problem was figuring out the correct part to order. I went to the Frigidare website for help there. The door was sandwiched in several layers. The part that broke was of course the plastic one. The door was poorly designed having a piece of plastic support heavy glass and metal! My brother, an engineer actually did the repair as it required three people to install the reassembled door. It is easy to reassemble, but key was the four white plastic "sleeves" that were recycled back into the assembly process from the old door. Without them and the clue they gave to reassembly, it would have been a disaster. There are thin slots on these plastic pieces and they slide into a connecting piece on the next layer when you reassemble the parts. Definitely don't throw anything away until the door is reassembled. It took three of us to hold the reassembled door in place and gently align the slot on the white plastic piece and secure the screws. The inner glass window is HEAVY, making it definitely a three person job...one person had to be sure the layers did not separate off the white plastic piece at the hinge connection on the machine, one had to secure the heavy glass as it could slip (unless you taped it in place), and one person to secure the screws. This self repair saved me a lot of money. It is a little complicated but with patience it can be done. I do recommend looking at the schematic on the manufacturers website to see how the layers are put back together before beginning.
