Refrigerator Defrost Timer

Answer Hello Majid. Does this only happen when the timer is in defrost mode, or when the compressor is trying to start? Thanks.

Answer Terry, the defrost timer 215846602 is located in the shelves diagram. It seems it is located at the front bottom left hand corner. Hope this helps!

Answer Hello Glen, This is the defrost drain stopped up. When the defrost water has no place to go, it will build up in the freezer and start to run over into the air ducts to the fresh food compartment. The defrost drain will have to be cleared and the air ducts cleared also since this freezes the air passages solid. This is either done by unplugging and leaving the unit open for several days or, the method that works best and fastest is a portable clothes steamer. You can use a hair dryer but this will take an hour or two to clear all of the ice build-up. Warning: Be careful of the Styrofoam blocks since they meter the air flow to the fresh food compartment. If they get broken, they will have to be replaced or items in the fresh food compartment will freeze.

Answer Randy, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Answer Paul. Presumably, you mean one of the tubes on the compressor, and not the condenser coil attached to the back of the refrigerator. Usually frost or ice on the compressor tubing is an indication of a restriction in the sealed system, at the evaporator or filter drier, among other possibilities. This would require a certified, licensed refrigeration technician to diagnose and repair the refrigerator.

Answer Diane, When you install the defrost timer, disconnect power to the unit and just unplug and plug the new timer in. It is not necessary for the timer dial to be turned in order to run the unit. Once the timer is installed, plug the unit back up to power source. If the unit does not come on then you will want to turn the dial on the timer until it clicks. This would take the timer out of the defrost mode. The timer if it has failed after 7 months and will not advance sounds like the gears are jammed.
