The refrigerator keeps tripping the circuit breaker. After I rotate the timer, it will work and then it will trip the breaker. Could it be the timer?

7 months ago, I called a appliance repairperson who replaced the defrost timer on FRS 26 WQH side by side. I am noticing the same problem again, i.e. minimal cooling on refrigerator side, so I ordered another defrost timer online to replace it myself. Once I receive the part, am I supposed to do something with the dial on the timer or just plug it in? (I saw a youtube video for another model that the instructor used a screwdriver on the defrost timer to turn the dial several 'light' clicks, a 'louder click', then two 'light' clicks again. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do this or not, and if so, why.) I tried to turn the 'dial' on the one that is currently installed and it did not turn. Is it supposed to? Is it standard for a defrost timer to only last 7 months? If not, why might it have gone bad (assuming it's bad) so soon?
