Hi. When I turn on my oven the ingntor glows but the oven does not turn on for a while. Then you will smell gas. Do you know what this could be?

This is a Tappan LP range. The stove top burners and oven both work fine independently. When the oven is on it is extremely difficult to impossible to light any top burner. If one does light it has a huge amount of pressure and eventually blows itself out. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks in advance!

Latest Questions

My oven recently stopped lighting, although the igniter was glowing red. When we tapped on the burner just above the safety valve, then it would light. I assumed from this that it was a bad safety valve. I pulled the wires off the safety valve and checked for continuity across it, which it has. Does this indicate that the valve is good, or could there be a problem/blockage in the valve orifice, and not necessarily an electrical issue? I also noticed that the pressure regulator valve above has a "switch" that when I cycle up/down lights the oven. This makes me wonder if this is the culprit and not the safety valve. If this is the case, why did the oven light when I tapped near the safety valve? Any suggestions? David

i recently replaced an ignitor that no longer worked, did.t glow or even attempt to. noticed a spot where the ignitor wire had touched the metal frame and left a small burn mark. after putti.g in the new ignitor my oven will not turn off, it will go down to short small blue flames but never off. tried unplugging it and it wont turn off untill you close propane valve.
