So if the shaft is rusty and the seal doesn't fit tight, can I seal it with silicon? It looks like the small part spins with the shaft, the ceramic disc riding on the larger seal. Is this correct?

Answer Hi Ed. Use Emery cloth to "sand and remove" all the rust from the shaft. Then you use liquid soap on the seal part # 5300803903 as it normally will be surrounded in these conditions. You can get the cheese grated emery cloth (approx.-1" wide) at a local hardware store in the plumbing section. Thank You.
Is the small part of this seal supposed to be tight on the motor shaft? Also, do the seals need lubed? Unit still leaks a bit.
Thanks
Ed

Answer Hello Ed,
The seal has to be tight against the shaft as it cannot allow water to pass. I always lubricate the seals with liquid soap so they never spin against the shaft dry. This could possibly cause damage to the seal.
