Please provide detailed installation information for this part. I have verified that it's the correct part for my appliance. However, I can't understand how the seal has a notch in it, and will actually keep the water from leaking.

Even though this is called a seal, this part is more of a splash guard. You see, the bottom of the dishwasher door is an air gap used as an air inlet for the dry cycle. When water drips from the bottom of the dishwasher door, it is usually caused by an over-fill of water or stopped up holes in a spray arm or a separation in the spray arm, causing a "wave" to be put in the water, (sloshing effect). Sometimes there will be a leak inside the door liner that can cause water to be lost at the bottom of the door but this is not a common issue.
To install it, remove the screws around the door liner and raise the door liner far enough to clip the part to the bottom of the door liner.
