Your part number AP2135640 (drain impeller and seal) goes on over the motor shaft. There is a keyway on the motor shaft the lines up with a key in the impeller. In trying to get this lined up and then get the plate and gasket installed above, the impeller key gets out of alingement with the motor shaft keyway. This makes the shaft standup a bit taller than it should. When the plate is tightened down the impeller and motor shaft will not turn. If you loosen the four bolts that hold the plate down then the shaft will turn. But in this mode the wash water would run out on the floor which is probably not desirable. What is the technique to get these parts all installed and tightened? The new impeller had a plastic key which got broke in the attempt to accomplish the task. The old impeller has a steel key in it which I am now going to use but I still have the alignment problem. What am I doing wrong?

Answer Walt, When you are putting the unit back together and you line up the key, you then have to put the plate on top and make sure that the impeller does not lift back up. YOu may need an extra set of hands to do this. If that impeller lifts at all it will get out of alignment.

Answer Hi Mike. Once you have taken the impeller center 5/16" out, you may need to gently pry it up and off the motor shaft w/a screwdriver. Pump motor part # AP2584435. You may be able to carefully insert a small screwdriver carefully in the back side of the motor and stop the fan blade from turning. This may help to momentarily stop turning direction as you are trying to get the impeller off the shaft.Yes you can use lubricant to help. It is highly recommended from the manufacture that you also change the seal kit (which also comes w/ the impeller) part # AP2135640. Thank You.
