The screen area at the bottom of my tub (as well as the shaft that the agitator goes on) is caked with muck. Is it possible to clean these areas up? Is that shaft supposed to be greasy and is part of this muck a rotted seal or gasket that I shouldn't mess with further? The washer works somewhat, but this used appliance came with some pretty nasty dirt that I am cleaning up where I can, and I am trying to see if this will resolve a problem with dirt left on sides of tub after I remove clothes. This dirt isn't from my clothes, I don't think. I also plan to put the agitator back on after cleaning to run a load for diagnosis of a slight leak. I'm an unemployed single mom and can't afford a new washer, so I hope that I can milk this one for awhile. Thanks so much for your time!

Part # AP2106709 Tub Trunion, does this have a weight on the bottom for balance? Something put a hole in the bottom of my tub.

Answer Hello Paul! No, the tub/trunnion assembly 131370400 does not have a weight on the bottom. The balance ring is made into the inner tub which balances the tub. Anything left in pants/shorts/shirt pockets can tear the tub. Thanks!

Answer Hello Rhonda, The bearing made on the bottom of the transmission is a one way bearing that acts as a brake when the transmission spins in the agitate direction. When it turns the other direction, it is allowed to spin freely. If your inner tub is spinning during agitation, this bearing has failed and will require the replacement of the transmission to correct the issue.
