Yesterday my washing machine began making loud squealing like noises when in the final spin cycle. The noise slowed down as the cycle was over and eventually ceased. I did one more load and it seemed fine, just slight squealing. Did another one last night and the machine made the same noises, then locked up and smoke was in the tub. Is this a belt problem, transmission problem, or bearings?? h.e.l.p
Answer Allie, Your first check needs to be at the belt 134511600 and idler pulley assembly 131862900, If the pulley is worn or distorted it could create a drag on the belt, causing the squealing noise, and the belt to smoke. Also check the laundry, make sure you're not missing any small articles, there could be something stuck between the tubs.
Replaced drive belt, spin burn belt and broken also wash cycle did not work .
You will want to pull the inner tub and make sure that the trunnion is not damaged and check under the unit to see if the pulley on the transmission turns. If it does not then the transmission is locked up and would need to be replaced.
