I have a diagnostic panel and after several attemps to clear the " DE " continues to flash. Would that be that the defrost thermostat is not working? Maybe the timer? Fan runs and it is cold and holding.

The refrigerator has failed but the freezer is functioning properly. Could this be a thermostat problem?

Why are both wires the same color on the WR50X55 defrost thermostat? How would I know which wire to connect to which color wire on the harness? And do the instructions for changing the bracket come packaged with the thermostat? Thanks for your help.

Hi. The contents of my freezer was thawing out and would refreeze. Loads of ice on the back panel. Discovered charred wire to lower heater element, repaired same but heater would not come on during defrost cycle. Removed defrost thermostat and heater now works. However original symptoms persist. I am going to order a thermostat but as defrost timer seems to work oK. I thought freezer should behave OK. Condenser coil is well frosted up and temp in freezer is approx. -5deg. C and the fridge wont go below +8deg.C. The cover over the fan /coil unit is removed for now. Q1. Would this affect the performance of the fridge due to the way the fan circulates cold air from freezer. Q2.Will a new thermostat restore my fridge to correct working condition?...Thanks..Mark

I have a similar temperature fluctuation. Ice tray ice melts, then mostly freezes and starts to melt again. We have to have the coldest setting on the temperature control in the fridge section to get it to perform this way. I haven't tested that control yet. The fan inside the freezer compartment seems to run fine. Ducts are clear. There was no frost on the freezer compartment coils when I pulled the internal cover off, although a week or two ago it may have frozen up when we found the door cracked open overnite. There was a good amount of water in the condensation tray over the compressor when we first discovered the melted ice cream the other day. I checked the defrost timer with an ohm meter and switching works, 1-3 coil terminals check ok--compressor off for 20 minutes as expected when installed and tested. Compressor runs with normal hum, but is hot to the touch--can only only handle heat with hand for 5 seconds. The coils are mostly dust free on back face of unit, not underneath where the compressor is. There is no cooling fan for this model's compressor. Is it supposed to run that hot? I don't hear any unusual noises. I took the starter overload off and shook it--there was no rattling. Any ideas what is going on here? We just filled the freezer recently (Vents are not obstructed). Help! lol. Thanks.
