The motor is is running. The machine drains but doesnt agitate. What could the problem be?

My washer is working fine except for the spin cycle, When it comes time to spin it drains but does not spin, and we smell a burning rubber smell. Do I need to replace the belt? I was going to order one tonight but need to know if this is what I need.

Answer Hello Kimberly. Check and see if the belt is burnt on the unit. If not, you will need to turn the pulley by hand and see if you can manually spin the tub assembly. If it will not spin, you have a bad bearing/transmission in the unit.

You will want to check to make sure that the motor WH20X10019 is running and that the belt is not broken WH1X2026. Since the pump is a separate part the unit will drain without agitation or spin.
