About a week ago the refrigerator became extremely noisy and would not stop running. We pulled it out vacuumed and blew all of the dust and slid back into place. Today we find at both the refrigerator as well as the freezer are no longer cooling. What could possibly be the problem and how do we begin to check? The model number is TFX22PP, manufacturer is GE.

Refrigerator runs all the time. Both the fresh side and defrost areas are too cold. Both light bulbs work. The fan at the bottom cooling the condenser (I think that is what it is) coil runs. Recently we had a very large AC power surge. A high tension line fell on a low voltage line. Many appliances in our neighborhood (and in our house) were fried. I happened to be monitoring the frig with a power meter. After the surge the power used went down from 170 W to 125 watts. I suspect the surge blew out a temperature control circuit (which had a load of about 45 W). Any ideas? Thanks, Rex Bullinger
