Stove makes a puffing sound when oven is on igniter glows red.
Answer Hello Bill. Test for 3.0-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
My oven ignitor is bad. The parts list calls out for a GE WB2X9154 round style, I have a GE WB13K21 square style. It fits the mounting bracket and lights the oven. Is there an operational difference that could cause an issue?
Answer Hello Don,
The primary difference is the amperage needed to heat the ignitor to the temperature necessary to ignite the gas. The round one will light the gas sooner and this should make a difference when cooking by recipe. The round one WB2X9154 should be installed in this unit.
