When repairing the door handle, how do I separate the the tow parts of the handle as seen by looking at the handle. Do I use a screwdriver or a metal paint scraper? Do I "push in" or do I "pry apart"?
Answer Hello Levi,
If you start from the end away from the handle, the trim should lift straight out from the door. It will slowly come out if you wiggle it back and forth as you pull. When you get to the handle, the end of the trim should slide off of the handle.
Note: This question is for the older version of this part, but we thought you might still find it helpful
I've just ordered replacement handles and tails for both the freezer and refridgerator doors on our GE refridgerator, and while they are in transit to us, I thought I'd email and ask how to remove the old handles and then how to install the new ones. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Many thanks~
Answer Hello Jay. You will need to remove the top and bottom trim pieces by unsnapping the trim from the door. Then remove the screws securing the handles WR12X10782 to the door and re-install the trim covers. Hope this helps.
