My Repair & Advice
The problem was corrosion in the connector coming from the freezer door; the wire easily separated from the connector once I examined it. I had already bought a new freezer door, replacement part number WR78X11246, but the new door has a different connector. So, on speculation, I bought GE P/N WR09X10132 adapter wire, and it worked! It not only allowed the new door to work with the old freezer, but it solved the problem of the corroded connector.
My repair info is related to replacing the door, which was a bit challenging because the door is just a door; all the ice dispenser parts, seals, etc. had to be scavenged from the old door and reused.
