My ice maker no longer makes ice but dispenses water without difficulty. How do I remove the ice maker as it is not obvious. Is it usually repairable or will I have to buy a new one?
Answer Hello Terry,
First off be aware that the dual water valve has one valve in it for the water dispenser and one valve for the icemaker. For this reason, the only thing the two have in common is the water supply to the refrigerator from the home water supply. I would replace the water valve first since it is the less expensive part and the more common cause of failure. If this doesn't correct the issue, since the icemaker has no available parts for service, it will have to be replaced. To remove the icemaker, remove the single screw that retains the panel to the bottom left of the icemaker. This allows access to the harness so it can be unplugged. Then simply depress the tab at the front top center of the icemaker and pull.
How do you remove the ice maker (P/N WR3010131). Is there a hidden screw or latch?
Answer Hello John. Remove the side cover out of the icebox and unplug the wires for the icemaker. Then pull down on the tab on the icemaker support and slide the icemaker backwards to remove it from the icebox.
Ice maker will not fill up. The water on the door dispenses but ice maker wont fill up and make ice.
Answer Hello Brian. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
