The ice maker only makes crushed ice, even when the indicator for cubed ice is illuminated. The water dispenser works normally.

The fridge is a bit over 7 1/2 years old. The ice maker only dispenses crushed ice even when cubed ice is selected. I opened the door(depressing switch) to make sure I could view the ice maker working. The stirrup does not move at all regardless of the selection. I am almost sure it is the solenoid. Is it possible for the solenoid to freeze or is it probably just defective?

I recently replaced the ice tray in my freezer. The stirr up for my solenoid is actively moving between my choices of "Crushed" or "Cubed", but it does not pull the wire actuator up high enough to effectively open the flap. There doesn't seem to be enough initial contact between the actuator and the stirrup in "Crushed" mode for there to be full motion in the flap when the position changes to "Cubed". The solenoid appears to move the stirrup all the way, but that motion is not transferred to the actuator. It seems that full contact is not made between the actuator and the stirrup until the end of its motion. I constantly get crushed ice as a result. Does this sound common? Are you aware of any ways to fix this? Thank you in advance. LeVar
