How does the Knob Assembly Control get removed from the Washing Machine. I tried to gently pull the knob off but it does not come off. What is holding this knob in place, as I don't want to pull to hard and break it off.

When I press the knob in, and turn it the cycle indicator does not move. The knob continues to spin free. I can turn the cycle indicator ring by holding the ring itself, press in the dial, and the machine starts and runs correctly. I removed the dial and see the three plastic teeth are in place, which suggests that the knob not broken. What part needs to be changed?

Cycle knob did not go through cycles properly and had to move knob manually through cycles. We replaced knob and clip because 2 teeth were missing so we assumed this was the problem, but the knob and assembly will set but still does not go through cycles properly and we still have to move manually through the cycles. Do we need to replace any thing else or is there another cause for this?
