The plastic around the screw holding the timer in place has broken and timer unit has slipped. Will this cause the knob and plate to spin instead of engaging the timer? I removed the knob, plate and timer unit. When I reassemble the knob and plate to the timer outside the washer, the timer clicks like it's supposed to. Do I need to replace the timer unit?

After the On/Off knob broke I used a plier to rotate the stick (stem?) to turn on the dryer. Now the mounting stick (stem?) for the knob broke off and I have no way of turning on the dryer. What part(s) should I purchase to make the On/Off knob work again? Also, is it achievable tasks for mechanically-challenged guy like myself? Thank you.
