My GE front load washing machine was in it's final spin cycle this morning. I loud noise came from the unit and I smelled electrical type smoke and shut down the unit. I restarted it with 9 minutes to finish the cycle. It finished it's cycle and I haven't touched it since this morning. Is the motor bad? belt? bearing?

Answer Gregory, Wouldn't expect the motor to be bad, The washer finished the remainder of the cycle. You do need to check the drive belt WH08X10024 to see if there was damage to it or the motor drive pulley, due to an overload, an article getting stuck or something similar to that situation.

My washer barely drains anymore and I'm thinking the motor assy part no. ap3872963 is what I need. Is this correct?

Answer Hello Mike. Check and make sure the filter and the hoses on the washer are not clogged. If not, you will need to order and replace the pump assembly WH23X10028 on the unit.

The drive belt broke and twisted around the drum pulley. After considerable effort, I removed the belt and replaced it and the pulley. However, when it goes into the spin cycle it make such a noise that it sounds like it is going to explode. The wash comes out fine and the sound is fine on all other cycles.

Answer Hello David, Based on the information provided it appears that the tub bearings may be bad. The tub bearing WH45X10071 going bad could have caused the belt to break.
