I believe that I need to change my drain pan. When the freezer goes into defrost mode I get water coming out from under the freezer. Some times it seems like a few gallons the way I have water running on the floor. What I need to know is there something attached to the drain pan that helps to evaporate the water? Also how do you access the drain pan from the back or front. I'm looking at it from the back and the compressor is blocking my access to see how the drain pan is attached or if anything is attached to it. It looks like I should be able to change this out on my own. I just need to make sure I'm not missing something.
Answer Hello Bobby,
The defrost drain pan on these units are mounted on top of the compressor. The heat from the compressors' operation helps to evaporate the water back into the room. You will need to check the drain to make sure there is no split in the line and the water is dripping into the pan. If so, the pan WR02X13371 has most likely cracked and will have to be replaced from the rear on top of the compressor. You will need to order a tube of silicone adhesive 8201711 and while you may not be able to use it all, most of it should be used since it protects the new pan, prevents vibrating noises, and helps to transfer the heat and rid the unit of the defrost water. This basically means that there should be a layer of silicone between the pan and compressor.
