My old dishwasher racks are coming apart because of rust. I don't understand why, with the new technology on rigid, durable plastics, why this rack can't be made of plastic and not subject to corrossion and rusting.

Answer Afraid this isn't something we can answer. The parts we sell come directly from the manufacturer of the appliance. The materials they choose to use during production is a decision their engineering depts. make. Sorry you're having problems with them.
