My GE washer is 6-7 years old. It will not stop filling and start
agitating - it just continues to pump in water! overflowed for 2 hours and flooded the basement (it is on the main floor)
Answer Becki, An easy check or diagnosis, Start the washer, while it is filling, unplug the power cord from the outlet. If the water stops filling you'll need to check or replace the WH12X10502 and WH41X10267 If the water does not stop flowing into the washer, you'll need to replace the water fill valve WH13X10049, One or more of the solenoid plungers is sticking open and allowing the washer to overfill.
