The straight end of the spring rest onto the back of the dispenser housing. This is the end that is turned one revolution to create the flapper tension.

Answer Hello Bobby, Yes, that is the reason for the frost and ice build up. You can remove the dispenser cover and access the parts to repair the broken flapper. There is no need to do the repair from the inside of the unit.

Answer Hello Neil. Slide the spring onto the shaft of the crank door and lock the clipped end onto the crank. Then twist the spring WR49X10233 1 round, applying tension and install the crank. When installed properly, it will hold the flap shut. Hope this helps.
