Hi - I called in and they said the model number Hotpoint dryer I have does not match their records, however they did say that they feel the part number I do need for a door switch is - WE4X197. My old part has 2 prongs, the one they say is a match has 3, will this work? If so, is there any issue or harm in leaving one prong unconnected? Thank you, Suzette

Answer Suzette, Yes the door switch WE4X197 will work for your unit. One of the terminals on this switch would go to the light if your unit had one equipped. One of your wires will go to Com and the other will go to one of the other terminals.

When I depress the door switch the electronic control board goes dark. Could this just need a new door switch? When the door is opened the board "re-lights" and apppears ready to work.

I replaced the door switch on my old GE Electric Dryer Model #DBLR333ETOWW. The part that searspartsdirect.com told me was for this dryer was part# WE4X197. When I went to replace it, I noticed that it has 3 prongs and my old switch only has 2. The number stamped on my switch is ASP2631-86 and the new one is ASP2831-86. What is the bigger prong for on the new switch? I plugged it in and it works fine. I just want to make sure I'm not going to have any issues with it.

Answer Hello Shawn, The door switch WE4X197 you have received is the door switch used with an interior light. Using your test meter, the wires should be attached to the two terminals that show continuity when the door is closed. The other terminal is hot when the door is opened to power the interior light. This will cause no issues.

Answer Hello JP. You will need to check and see if the switch WE4X197 closes the contacts when pressed with a multi-meter. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
