when I load the dryer, close the door and set the cycle time I get this humming sound before I turn the start switch. So I took my ohm meter and check the contracts in the motor start switch and 3&5 is open and 1&2 is closed. My question is how does this switch work, does the button on the side need to be in or out in the off position? What mahes the contracts change position I don't think it has a coil in it.

Answer Hello Larry. If the unit starts, then it is not the motor. If it does not start and hums, then the motor will need to be replaced. The humming, may be the timer. Number 5 is the start. 4 and 1 are the neutral. 2 is the flame sensor, and 6 is the timer. 3 is not used. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. The dryer worked just fine for the first 2 loads today. I put the 3rd load in and closed the door. I then set the time and reached over and turned the -start- switch and heard a --for lack of correct terminology-- a grinding noise. Is the start switch (part # WE4X344/ paper found inside the back of dryer) the part needing replacement.

Answer Hello Paula, The Switch, motor form WE4X344 is not a part that works for the model number listed. This issue would be caused by a faulty motor WE17X10010 as the motor start switch is incorporated into the motor.

My electric dryer is not drying the cloth. I feel the heating element and/or the thermostat has finally gone out. My question is: is the heating element & thermostats(items: #315 & #316) all within the dryer motor switch. I noticed these numbers for the thermostats and I feel that it could very well be these thermostats. I don't know where they are our how to access them. I've looked at a diagram and don't know whether to take it completely apart or if there are some instructions within this program on how to disassemble my dryer to get to the parts. I saw the motor switch when I dismantled the back plate and saw all the wires connected to the dryer switch...but the thermostats, I'm not sure...Can you help me with a step-by-step instruction diagram within the web...Thanks, Rudy

Answer Rudy, None of the components you mentioned(heater element or thermostats) is "within the motor switch" The thermostats are located inside the inlet duct in the front of the dryer under the lint filter inside the metal box.(you can usually feel along the front of the drum, inside the tumbler and feel the thermostat) And the heater element is located in the tunnel, mounted to the right area of the base assembly and the inlet duct located behind the drum. You'll need to remove the front of the dryer to access and check or repair either of these components.

Answer Hi Stephan. The motor switch part # WE4X344 has 2- screws that mount the switch onto the motor frame. It has 6-wire connections that you take note of before removing the original switch. Pay attn. to the dimple on the back side of the switch that helps to locate it to the motor frame. Thank You.

GE electric dryer motor just hums. This just happens some of the times and not always. If I tape the door switch closed and push the start switch and turn the drum by hand it will run just fine. Do I have a faulty cintrifical switch? Thanks Ray

The dryer is working fine, but the knob broke off and we need to use a plyer to turn it on. The plastic broke around the knob. Do I need a new switch or is there another part I can use?
