Most Interesting

The control knob assembly has stopped working properly. I thought that the knob gears were stripped (again). However, when I removed the knob all of the gear teeth on the knob and timer appear to be OK. But the knob and dial assembly will not stayed 'engaged' properly with the timer. The timer itself seems to be a bit loose. The timer can be moved back and forth and side-to-side slightly. Is this normal? Could the timer mounting be loosened up somehow or is a poor compression ring likely? If I leave off the dial assembly, the knob seems to work pretty well. Of course I don't have a dial indicator (unless I properly mark the knob itself). The washer is 15 years old, but the compression ring (and gears) all look to be fine. I would appreciate your thoughts or recommendations.
