My oven would not light so I installed a new ignitor #WB2X9154 and oven fired right up and ignitor glowed really well but when I shut off the oven with oven temp knob the flame reduced down but after 45 minutes still did not go out. I had to shut oven off with master gas valve. A few weeks back we also smelled gas just a little in the kitchen but we have not smelled it since then. What are the chances of having two parts go out at once and what do you think has happened? Thank You Very Much!

Our Kenmore oven doesn't seem to get good gas flow all the time.The top burners work great,but the oven flame flutters and some times it is making a loud sound and the flame doesn't go out right away with the valve turned off

Answer Hello Ruben. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Trying to determine why oven wont light. Thermostat control seems fine - 120VAC between the heavy gauge wire when I turn the control on, but I don't read any voltage at the safety valve. I measure about 1.5-2 ohms across the valve terminals with the wires unhooked. Does that indicate a bad valve, or the signal going to the valve?

Answer Hello MsrkG. Test and see if there is power going to the igniter. If so, and not to the gas valve, you will need to replace the igniter WB2X9154. Everyone thinks there is a faint smell of gas coming from the Gas Range at times. I checked connections with soapy water and found nothing. Is it possible that the Gas Safety Valve does not shut off completely? The Oven works fine.

Put a new safety valve in oven. Turned oven on, worked like it supposed to, except when turned it off it would not go out had to unplug it from the wall. Plug it back into outlet and oven came on in off position. Unplug waited 5 min or so and it worked like it supposed to then it done it again had to unplug it from the wall to get it out. With the oven control knob in the off position is there to be voltage on wire going to safety valve? Also cannot get flame controlled its so high it comes up into the oven.
