Answer Hello Fred. If they are broken, then yes, it could. However, check and make sure the unit is not rubbing against the bottom base, and that the hub assembly is not broken, and the shocks are good. All of these can cause the issue you are having with the unit.

Answer Hello Robert, You will want to check suspension rods to make sure that they are not damaged or broken. Also check the Washer apron to make sure that it is not bent. If you have a model with a 3 piece apron this is the most likely problem.

Answer Bernie, Your Maytag Centennial washer does not have dampening straps, so there's no need to consider that. If your washer won't spin, even empty, there are several things you'll want to check . First, make sure you don't have a voltage issue, if the power supply drops below 108 VAC when the motor starts, it overheats and shuts down. Remove the tub cover and check for small articles stuck between the inner and outer tub. Remove and check the drain pump 3363394 for something stuck in the impeller, or a seized up impeller.

Answer Aprill, You should replace all four of the dampening straps(per the manufacturer) The screws that attach the strap and retainer to the tub cover and chassis are standard, 1/4 inch hex head screws. If you have a basic 1/4 inch drive socket set or Nut driver set, you'll be fine. Thank You
