Water is running out the ice chute of the icemaker. It has a water dispenser, too. Icemaker or water valve failure? Thanks!
Answer Hello Earl,
If the water is coming out of the ice chute, the water dispense is not the issue. Open the freezer door and remove the ice bin. Use a flashlight to see if water is coming from the ice maker fill tube. If so, replace the water inlet valve WR57X10019. If not, check the bottom of the ice maker to see if it's hot. There could be a set of contacts in the ice maker motor control module that is keeping the mold heater on. This will constantly melt the ice. Be careful when you check it! It gets plenty hot enough to raise a blister! Let us know if we can assist you further.
Hello, this new valve has a fitting, threaded that is under the black boot on this valve. This is supposed to be for the line coming from the house. This area is where the leak occurs now. Is there a way to prevent this. I think if I replace this valve the way it is we will have the same leak. Can I use a Teflon tape on this one? Thank you. Main issue is leaking from house hose.
Answer Hello Ronald,
The fitting you are referring to is a compression fitting. Teflon tape will not fix a leak on a compression fitting because the threads don't seal, the point of compression does. If you have a copper line to the unit, you will need to use a tubing cutter to cut off the end of the line, and install a cap and new ferrell onto the line. Push the line all of the way into the valve half of the fitting. Hold pressure against the line into the valve while you tighten the compression nut.
If you have a flexible line that appears to be made of a rubber material, this line will require replacement because these have a rubber "o" ring in it that has torn and nothing can stop this leak.
If you have a translucent small plastic line, this needs to be replaced anyway as this style has been identified as the cause of much water damage and should not be used on a line containing water pressure constantly. If you absolutely refuse to change this style line and use it anyway, you will need to find some plastic ferrell fittings because the metal ones will cut the line when tightened.
