I get the dE code. The door is shut and not leaking water. The door clicks only once instead of twice. This was an intermittent problem for about a week. To see if it made a difference, I did a speed wash instead of a permanent press cycle. I returned to check on the laundry and found the room hot and the machine very hot. I pulled the plug. Steam came out of the door when I opened it and the water and clothes were very, very hot. I drained the water and removed the clothes. After a day, I plugged in the machine again and it again gave me a dE code. Since we have been having this problem, I also noticed that the tub has more water than usual filling to just below the bottom interior seal line. Will replacing the latch correct the problem? Does the thermister need attention?

Answer Ess, The DE error code indicates a door open error. Check to make sure that the connections at the door switch and PWB are no loose, corroded or broken. If this checks ok then replace the door switch assembly 6601ER1004C.

How will we know if dE code is caused by sensor to or the actual front load washer door latch that made the cycle to stop. We tried plugging it off and on. The latch seems working fine and secured. We just want to be sure before ordering the latch. Thanks.

Answer Hope, The DE error code does indicate a door open error. You will want to check the door strike on unit, make sure that the door is closed all the way, check for loose electrical connections at the door switch and PWB assembly. If these check ok then you will need to replace the door switch assembly.

The washer was used for a full cycle. After the washer was emptied, I put another load in the washer. This time the washer will not power up and the light inside the washer will not shut off. I unplugged the washer and plug it back in after 3 minutes, this time I was able to power the washer and finished another cycle. Third load it will not power up again and the light inside on. I did not observed any error code. Is it possible that the door latch switch is broken and it's not sending signal that the door is closed. Prior to these issues the light will turn on when the door is open or after a full cycle is finished, but it will shut off after the door is closed or after a minute when the cycle is done.

Answer Hello Joel, The door latch assembly has either failed or the control has failed and is not interpreting the signal from the door latch. The first thing that should be done in this instance is to open the unit and unplug each connector and re-connect one at a time. This eliminates the possibility of ordering a part if it is a simple connection issue. You can also run the service program to look for fault codes. I cannot tell you how to do this on a Kenmore since they protect their information, but you can get the information from the tech sheet. It is usually located under the main top or behind the kick panel. Sometimes it is in an envelope attached to the inside of the cabinet.

Cannot open door can hear lock click but door will not open

How can I test the Door Lock Assembly Switch (AP4441836) to make sure it's working. It doesn't seem to sense when the door is closed so when I press on the start button after selecting a cycle nothing happens. I took the switch out and check the 4 pins with my continuity test and none of them change connectivity no matter what position the switch is in.

Answer Hi Mike. The door lock Assy. part # 6601ER1004C has a coil and a wax motor that closes within a predetermined time. So you can only test some of the latch. See the page of this service manual to test.I would use a volt/ohm meter part # TJMA-DM1 to assist. you in your diagnosis. Use the supplied Tech. sheet to aid you in the diagnostic mode. Is the display showing a dE code? It is designed to test the individual par6ts and throw up a fault code. You will find it in the top area after you remove the top. Make sure all latch connections are tight. Thank You.
