Drier heats up for 5 seconds and cuts off heat. If I jump the 2 wires to the hi-limit thermostat I get constant heat with door open while I depress switch on door. Is there a way to test thermostat before I buy a new one to make sure thats what I need?

My DLG5988S Dryer will not heat. At first it would trip the hi limit thermostat. I cleaned the vent pipe from outside to inside. It worked for about three days, then tripped again. I replaced both thermostats on the flame tube and the sensor. I broke the igniter while doing this and had to replace it also. I turned on the dryer and the igniter heated up and I had a flame, so I thought all was fixed. However, the flame goes out after a short time and does not come back on. I was told to replace the thermister and thermostat on the blower housing. These parts are the only ones left to change. Can you offer any other suggestions?

When I turn the machine on it says check filter, and won't ignite. I've cleaned the filter including the squirrel cage, and still no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Latest Questions

I have 7 yrs old LG gas dryer that has had the control module replaced, gas valve, igniter and thermostat but still have gas smell--not all the time. I found one video on you tube that shows exactly what my unit is doing. The glow comes on, then ignites and runs for some time then the glow goes out but it continues to release gas that is not ignited. I have talked to LG and the place where we bought it with no help. Any idea what could be causing this? Sometimes the smell is very strong and other times none at all. Seems to be worse when using permanent press or delicate cycle. Don't seem to smell it using timed dry. I have had the gas company out and they at first didn't find anything but standing there talking to him with the dryer running the sensor went off. Can also smell gas outside where the dryer vents and sensor went off there too.

Similar "gas comes on then cuts off", But, I took the dryer apart including removing the drum. I ran the dryer and the flame came on and stayed on (working as it should). I then reassembled, and got the same flame on/cuts off within 10 seconds. Does this point to thermostats? In an open box, it doesn't really heat up, so thermostats don't "trip", but when box is assembled, heat builds up causing thermostats to trip? It couldn't be the coils right, because SOMETIMES it works just fine?

DLG0332W The flame comes on only few seconds then shuts down. I did replace the reset thermostat, seemed the new reset thermostat doesn't click when I pushed the reset button in. What could be wrong? Could it be a defective reset button?
