Ice cream and other foods are not cold enough. Bought freezer thermometer and temp was in the upper 20’s F. Actions: Cleaned condenser coils – no change in temperature. Removed freezer cover panel and inspected evaporator (no frost). Unplugged defrost thermostat and defrost heater element and operated refrigerator – Freezer temperatures dropped to low-mid teens. Ordered replacement defrost thermostat. Installed new defrost thermostat and plugged in heater element. After 48 hours the freezer temperature is at 23°F and the refrigerator temp is at 37°F. What else I should try before calling a serviceman or buying a new refrigerator? Thanks

If there was no frost pattern on the evaporator, the issue is definitely not related to the defrost circuit. I'm curious as to whether there was any ice at the back wall where the freon line enters the freezer compartment. This would be an indication of a freon loss. If there was no ice at all and the temperature dropped to 32°F, I would be more inclined to suspect a bad relay on the control board. This would cause the unit to operate normally at times and not operate normally when the relay didn't make electrical connection. 37°F is a perfect temperature for the fresh food compartment, but 23 is at least 8° too warm for the freezer compartment. I believe the most likely suspect in the electrical control circuit would be an out-of-tolerance temperature sensor 6500JB2002T in the freezer compartment. The last thing to try, (because of cost), would be the control board 6871JB1215J.
