My water tube in my LG refrigerator (5 yrsd old) was cracking likely due to age or heat. Rather than replacing it in its entirity since I did not know how to get into the back of the fridge, I bought a compresion fitting and spliced the line at the top of the fridge a few inches before it goes in. So there is a new tube from the main water vavle at the bottom right side of the tube and 5 ft up the fridge. To my surprise, after I plugged in the refrigerator, water would not come out of the water dispenser. I pulled the water valve out, had it tested for continuity and it also opened when plugged to a power source. The icemaker still makes ICE which tells me water is going to the icemaker when calling for ice. However, no water comes out of the dispenser. I found part # 5220JB2008A which is a dual valve. Could this be the problem? bad valve that only allows one side to open? if so, where is this valve and how do I replace it? Could the problem be electrical, bad fuse? if so, where and how do I test it?
Answer Brian, Yes, the dual water valve 5220JB2008A could be the issue. It is possible for one solenoid to fail and stop the water flow, and the other to remain active, and operate. To access the dual valve you would open the left refrigerator door. At the bottom of door remove the shelf. Behind shelf there is a phillips head screw. Remove screw and pull cover off. Once cover is off you will see the water reservoir and water valve. Check connections of water valve and for power to valve when water is selected. We will send you some basic information that should be helpful. Thanks
Hi how hard is it to get the Valve, water AP4441938 out? Also where is it? On the door? How do I get to it?
Answer Hi Rod. To access the dual water valve on unit, open the left refrigerator door. Remove the shelf at the bottom of the door and take out the phillips head screw holding the cover in place. Remove cover and you will access the water valve and tank. Then the water lines at the valve are held in place by internal springs that grip the line tight with the release tabs (on the valve) pushed out. Therefore you push the valve release tabs in towards the valve and at this same time you pull out the plastic lines. One will be the 5/16" size and the other will be 1/4' size. Made easier for replacement. Valve Part # 5220JB2008A. Thank You.
My water dispenser is extremely slow in dispensing water. Will replacing this valve fix the problem? Thanks for any help.
Answer Hi Brian. What you probably are not aware of is the ice maker filling too slow and the ice cubes a little smaller also. These issues are an indication of the water filter part # 5231JA2006F is very full. They are normally changed now at a 6- mos period instead of 1-yr, so it is easy to loose track of time. It depends on the type of water someone can have also. If it is hard also..... Thank You.
