Thanks for your reply. I did the tests as you said, (Clockwise & counterclockwise as looking at the bottom with washer tilted back) 1st rotate the pulley clockwise and the tub would rotate (along with the transmission). Then I rotated the pulley counter-clockwise. It was closer to 1/4 turn when I felt some resistance but the tub turned (again with the transmission in sync). So no seized up bearing, right? Would it still rotate in both directions and still be a seized up bearing? I haven't heard unusual noises from it like a bad bearing might make. Question: Does this motor change direction to change from agitate to spin? If it does, I was wondering if the control knob is the problem. Eleven years ago I rescued this washer from the curb. I took apart the control knob and cleaned all the contacts, realigned them, put it back together and haven't had a problem till now.

My magtag topload washer won't agitate although I am becoming agitated. Motor spins fine and it will complete a spin cycle, fill, drain, etc. when I advance the control knob. It just won't agitate, but motor will still turn and begin to burn belt. This problem started a few weeks ago, but somehow after a few manual starts and stops I could get it to agitate and finish. Now nothing I do will get it to agitate. Is it dead? Thanks for your help.
