Mini refrigerator. It freezes everything. I'm thinking its the thermostat. Can I use a multi-meter to test the thermostat? It has three leads on it: green, black, and yellow. I know how to check for continuity, AC, DC. Can you walk me through a simple test for the thermostat?
Answer Hello Dan,
You simply disconnect the wires from the component and turn the control to off. It should read as no connection. When it is turned to the on position it should read no resistance. This is a basic test and will not actually show if the temperature control is opening and closing at the proper temperatures. Since the temperature controls on these are common failures, there is a very good chance that it is the cause of your issue.
The freezer is frozen, ice getting frozen and the fan keep running. If I turn the thermostat down still the fan keep running.
You will want to check to make sure that the unit is not frosting up causing the unit to continuously operate. If it is then you will need to check the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity. If there is not continuity then replace the part. If they both have continuity then replace the timer. If the coils are clear then replace the thermostat.
