My Repair & Advice
First one, then the other door spring in our 15-year-old Amana dishwasher broke. After a number of recent home repairs and improvements we hadn't exactly budgeted for a new dishwasher on top of that. The serial and model number on the washer's label had been almost scrubbed off, but I googled for the machine with what was left of the number, and actually found it. Sears no longer had parts for it, but AppliancePartsPro.com did, together with full diagrams.
The springs were expensive, $15 a piece, but I ordered them with standard shipping, which AppliacePartsPro.com said takes 1.7 days on average. Amazingly, the springs arrived the next morning!!
So I dislodged the washer and pulled it out by several inches. Replacing the old broken springs was easy, a 10 minute job. And now the was the washer door has spring action again instead of crashing down every time we open it.
So the repair cost us under $40 instead of the thousand bucks for a new one. We're very impressed with AppliancePartsPro.com huge selection of hard-to-find parts and the super-fast shipping!
