My Repair & Advice
Ordered new magnatron (for the second time) per prior part number lookup. Part was on our front porch 2-3 days per $7 standard Fed Ex shipping. We unplugged and removed microwave from kitchen built-in cabinets. Consulted magnatron replacement how-to-guide on Google. Wife defeated and removed special microwave cover screws and removed cover. Carefully removed old magnetron and installed new one. Screw locations were simple and obvious. Test of boiling 1 cup of water was successful. Replaced microwave back into kitchen built- in cabinets, tightened screws, leveled, plugged in cord and made a tasty cup of Constant Comment black tea.
Saved 1 hour labor and Sears service call at $150. Cost of magnatron has increased, may not be cost effective to replace a third magnatron. Sears parts department was unwilling to order the part unless I scheduled a technician for the installation ($274).
