My Repair & Advice
After much research on the internet and no solution I decided to look for parts and found most had been discontinued. It was a GE jgp690 cook top and about 25 years old,but looked like new. I found the switch where the spark was most pronounce had a broken knob. the metal clasp was missing. So I thought maybe the knob might be the problem, and they were still in stock, so I order one and got it the next day. I attached it to the switch. Said a prayer and plug in the attached cord and no sparking sound and turn on the burner and the ignition work. Not one of my HOW TO contacts mention about the knob could be the problem.
