My Repair & Advice
We remodeled our kitchen 4 years ago and installed 4 Whirlpool Gold appliances, dishwasher failed, refrigerator failed, and now exhaust hood motor failed. I would throw it out but it has to fit in the exact location so the motor must be replaced. Whirlpool makes terrible products and I would tell everyone never to buy their stuff. Wish I new that 4 years ago.
Anyway, first remove cowling over duct, disconnect duct, unplug hood, carefully unscrew hood from wall and remove. Lay fan on back, remove filters. unscrew everything and disconnect wires. Take some pictures along the way. Unscrew wing nuts and push bolts toward blower housing. Carefully remove blower housing. Dismantle blower housing to expose motor. Remove Motor. My new motor did not come with the electrical adapter plug so cut the old one off and be sure to leave enough wire to work with. You will need six very small wire nuts to connect to new motor wires. Match wire colors and connect. Wrap connections with electrical tape when done. Re-install motor in blower housing. Re-Install blower housing. Re-install all screws, nuts and wires. Test fan and lights. Re-install exhaust hood.
Note: When you take down hood be careful of the plastic electrical component mount it is very weakly attached to the metal part of the exhaust hood.
Note: WHIRLPOOL SUCKS AND DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR CRAPPY PRODUCTS.
