I ordered 487746 replacement hinges for my Thermador SMW272 oven. I know how to lock the old hinges open, remove the door and remove the old hinges from the door. The problem is that the new hinges from AppliancePartsPro came shipped in the closed/unlocked position. I can't reinstall the door with the new hinges in that position and opening and locking them manually is extremely difficult if not impossible. Any suggestions? AppliancePartsPros.com: You really should ship these in the open/locked position and ready to install. Some written instructions might be nice as well.
Answer Hello B.L.D.,
The problem is that since we do not ever see the parts, (they are manufactured at the appliance manufacturers' facility, and packaged there), so we never actually see the parts. I always just installed the hinges in the door and used my vise grips to grasp the hinge to open it. This makes it easier and safer since you get so much leverage from the door assembly and the vise grips. Again, instructions are included with parts at the discretion of the parts/appliance manufacturer. You are welcome to direct complaints such as this to the appliance manufacturer and if enough complaints are received, the manufacturer might take action to correct the discrepancy.
The 2 oven doors work fine. The bottom door does not close all the way. I took both doors off. The top working door I put on the bottom oven and the same problem the door does not completely shut. The bottom door works fine on the top oven. Is this still the hinges? If so what is the part number to order and is there a procedure to follow for the replacement and installation of the hinges? Thanks, Kevin
Answer Hello Kevin,
I'm sorry but it appears that the hinge receivers are the parts you need and they are not listed by the manufacturer. This means that these are probably part of the bake tub assembly, which are also not listed, (not available). The best advice I can give you at this point would be to contact the manufacturer and see if they can provide you with a part number for the hinge receivers.
bottom oven door won't stay closed,so I ordered the correct hinge and took the door out and removed all screws but still having a problem getting hinges out of door panel. Do I have to put the hinges in the closed position? How can I put the hinge in the closed position?
Answer Hello Tony. Here is the information we have on the replacement. REMOVING THE OVEN DOOR CAUTION: Be careful handling the oven door when removing it, as it is very heavy. Never lift the door by the handle. 1. Pull the oven out of its mounting location so that you can access the left and right hinge pocket covers. 2. Remove the screws from the left and right hinge pocket covers and remove the covers. 3. Remove the locking screw from each of the hinges.4. Fully open the oven door5. Raise the U-clip over the hook on each of the hinges to lock them. This will prevent the hinge from snapping closed when the door is removed. 6. Grasp the oven door by the sides near the top, and carefully close it until the hook in the hinge contacts the hinge support (approximately 3/4 of the way). You will feel some spring resistance while you do this, which is normal. 7. Gently lean against the top of the door to hold it in position, and grasp the door firmly by the sides approximately 2/3 of the way down, then open the door slightly, and lift it until the hinges are free of the frame supports. Pull the hinges out of the oven slots and remove the door. REINSTALLING THE OVEN DOOR 1. Hold the oven door by the sides approximately 2/3 of the way down and insert the hinges into the oven slots near the top as far as possible.2. Lower the oven door to its fully open position. 3. Rotate the U-clips on the hinges forward to the unlocked position. 4. Close the oven door. 5. Reinstall the two hinge locking screws. 6. Reinstall the hinge pocket covers."
