The unit turns on/off just fine. But once powered on the unit will go to the drain mode for a few seconds and then reset and start again with drain mode. My husband pulled it of the cabinet and noticed there is a red plastic piece that seems to stay down to low, so he powered the unit back on and held this red piece up and noticed the water drains and slightly fills up BUT the dishwasher will not power the water through its sprayers.

These are simple to repair after a few years of figuring them out. You need to remove the power from the unit and turn off the water. Remove the water inlet valve and set it aside. Using a wet vac or wicking the water out of the base with the corners of a towel not washed with fabric softener, (this will repel the water instead of wicking it out), dry all of the water out of the base. It needs to be dry to operate properly. When this is complete, install a new water inlet valve and your repair is complete as long as you have no water leaks at the new water inlet valve.
The door will not latch.

Dish washer is not draining. Drain hoses and trap all clear. Fault code 5 ( 1 aqua sensor + 4 filling fault). What do you recommend?

Answer David, Here are the basic checks " Water doesn't drain properly. > Kink in drain hose. Dishwasher filter(s) or sump clogged. Straighten or replace drain hose. Clean dishwasher filters or sump. Drain motor impeller clogged. Kitchen sink or sink air gap clogged. Drain motor ) failed. Timer or control module failed." On/off switch was sticking. Finally got it to turn on and half way through the cycle the display went blank. Cycle finished but dishwasher will not turn on any more and there is still no display. Is it the switch or the board causing the problem?

Answer Hi Bruce. The door switch part # 165242 will control the power to the board when the switch is closed. It sounds like you have 2 - problems including the control board. Control module - Made by Bosch. Common program control module for Bosch dishwashers SHU53/68. NOTE The manufacturer has redesigned the cover and indicator lights. Lights may be covered by the plastic case. You may have to remove the square covers over the indicator lights if needed. The same case is used for 6 and 8 indicator light models. They also no longer use the red bulb indicator lights, small surface mounted lights are used instead.
