Friend gave me a used refrigerator, but warned me it was broken. I plugged in refrigerator and it was making a knocking noise. Took off the back panel and the knocking noise is coming from the compressor. Seems to be cooling, fan is working but knocking noise. It is a Kenmore, can you help me out? Fridge is not cooling. I did a few common tests and all seems okay. When I took a back panel out I saw a ice build up on just 2 rows of the coil including the copper rod where the thermostat is clipped. I did a continuity test on the defrost thermostat and heater, both shows around 15 ohms. I cleaned evaporator coil bone dry. Vaccum motor fan and coils under the fridge clean. Plugged it in before I went to bed. When I return this morning the to find the same issue...only the top 2 evaporator coil and the 1 of the copper rod/pipe where the thermostat is clipped had ice build up, rest of the evaporator coils were super clean that it didn't even have a thin ice. Please help me what could be wrong? I am so confused. Plus ice is quit making but I guess it has to do with fridge is not cold enough to make a ice. Thank you.
