Friend gave me a used refrigerator, but warned me it was broken. I plugged in refrigerator and it was making a knocking noise. Took off the back panel and the knocking noise is coming from the compressor. Seems to be cooling, fan is working but knocking noise. It is a Kenmore, can you help me out? Do I need a compressor kit or compressor with starter kit?

Please advise of the parts in the kit aside from the compressor. Also, what would keep my freezer from freezing? Thank you.

Fridge is not cooling. I did a few common tests and all seems okay. When I took a back panel out I saw a ice build up on just 2 rows of the coil including the copper rod where the thermostat is clipped. I did a continuity test on the defrost thermostat and heater, both shows around 15 ohms. I cleaned evaporator coil bone dry. Vaccum motor fan and coils under the fridge clean. Plugged it in before I went to bed. When I return this morning the to find the same issue...only the top 2 evaporator coil and the 1 of the copper rod/pipe where the thermostat is clipped had ice build up, rest of the evaporator coils were super clean that it didn't even have a thin ice. Please help me what could be wrong? I am so confused. Plus ice is quit making but I guess it has to do with fridge is not cold enough to make a ice. Thank you.

Last night we heard a loud pop come from our refridgerator and then a burning smell filled the air. I slide the unit out from the wall, unplugged it and performed an admittedly long overdue dust cleaning. Once completed we plugged the unit back in, the fan ran correctly but when the compressor tried to startm, smoke came from the starter. While I have minimal experience with appliances, my experience with electric motors tells me that when the start tries to kick the motor on and the starter smokes it usually means the motor is locked up. Would you concur with this diagnosis? I am preparing a parts list to review with the repairman when he comes out tomorrow before I order from your site. Thank you.

I do know this will fit my fridge but unfortunately it will be my first compressor to change out. I have an hvac background changing compressors and technician support on outside condensers. So the questions I have are is a standard mapp gas torch and flux and solder strong enough for the compressor, and all other drier filter where woud it go to be honest and do I need one or two piercing valves to high and low side at what size, is 1/4" good enough, for the piercing valves would i need,.... the other question is after evacuating the system and charge the refrigerant, I see what the pressure is to be on the label is this the same as superheat the system...as to condensers...
