How do I replace the defrost heater? Thank you, Don
Answer Hello Don,
Remove the unit from the power supply since you will be working in close proximity to parts carrying 120Vac. Remove the shelves and remove the ten or so screws holding the back in the unit. Be careful as you bring this cover out since the thermostat is mounted on it. I normally pull the knob and remove the thermostat from this panel so I don't have to deal with the wiring and thermostat bulb. This gets you into the evaporator compartment. You will now disconnect the wires to the heating element and carefully manipulate it out of the evaporator coils. On some models you may have to pull the screws out that mount the evaporator to the back wall. If this is the case, try not to bend the tubing any more than ABSOLUTLY necessary since a Freon loss would make the unit un-repairable financially. Re-assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly.
